All the way in San Francisco, I was made aware of a first of its kind symposium held in New York which was bringing together both government and business leaders under roof with the aim to address global economic issues as well as advance investment, trade, and economic relations among nations. So I got on a plane and headed for the Harvard Club in Manhattan to attend the International Economic Alliance's Pathways to Prosperity.Energy seemed to be one of the major issues on everyone's mind - especially self made billionaire T. Boone Pickens who is on a mission with the 'Pickens Plan' to educate and influence the US to take action from our dependancy on foreign oil. I was able to talk to Mr. Pickens who explained how greatly affected our generation will be if we do not start pursuing alternative resources and continue to be dependent on oil. The Unites States has 4% of the population and we are using 25% of the oil in the world. Out of the 85 millions of gallons of oil produces, the US uses 21 million - yet we are producing only 7 million. That means that we are spending 700 billion dollars on foreign oil a year - and those numbers don't connect for Pickens. The symposium was a great success - Many key issues were addressed, important necessary meetings took place, and connections were formed. I was honored to witness the conception of many investment-related developments at the highest national level. Although we have many hurdles to overcome, I left New York with a sense of hope that our worlds leaders are taking those first steps towards ensuring a promising future for our generation by building a pathway to prosperity.
